Reviewed by: A Wizard from the Start: The Incredible Boyhood & Amazing Inventions of Thomas Edison Elizabeth Bush Brown, Don . A Wizard from the Start: The Incredible Boyhood & Amazing Inventions of Thomas Edison; written and illus. by Don Brown. Houghton, 2010. 32p. ISBN 978-0-547-19487-5 $17.00 R Gr. 2-4. Biographers who assiduously probe a subject's childhood for early harbingers of coming greatness too often make molehills of promise into mountains of accomplishment. Brown faces no such struggle with young Thomas Edison, whose boyhood love of tinkering and experimenting ("Poor Mrs. Edison worried that they would 'blow [their] heads off '") and early debut in the labor force (by age twelve he worked a fourteen-hour day selling sundries on a commuter train) were direct indicators of the inventor and entrepreneur he would become. More importantly, Edison's childhood was rife with the kind of detail a contemporary kid might actually want to read about: setting fire to a baggage car with a chemistry experiment, running a small newspaper at age fourteen, saving a child from being hit by a freight train and getting a dream job as a reward, tramping around the country as an itinerant telegraph operator by age sixteen. Of course all this leads up to a brief litany, dispatched in the last couple of pages, of the inventions for which Edison the grown man would become famous. Brown oversimplifies a bit by claiming Edison [End Page 473] "invented the electric light bulb," but kids will get the general idea of the breadth of his interests. The author's note addresses Edison's astonishing number of patents and suggests that his career had a darker side, marked by ruthless business practices and experimentation that would be considered unethical by today's standards. This is a fine introduction for children not quite ready to step up to Delano's Inventing the Future. A brief bibliography is included. [End Page 474]

After a little investigation, I find that CA aka User:Claudio Asaro has also registered accounts on the English Wikipedia as User:Windask and User:Dr Claudio plus the automatically registered accounts from other language Wikipedias User:Komorosky and User:Kaiodviskok. He has been indefinitely blocked from the Italian Wikipedia for repeated vandalism and sockpuppetry to evade blocks. [1]. On this talk page he asks the help of another user to post a picture of him on Commons because the admins on Italian Wikipedia don't believe his claim that he is 10 years old. I think it's a waste of time giving further advice on this proposed portal. Voceditenore (talk) 19:04, 22 November 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

A new table on the (differing) numbering of movements in the St Matthew Passion, Matthew Passion/NBA BWV table (not by me), needs a category, I don't know enough in that area, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:34, 14 December 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Unfortunately someone(s) has been changing the start date on other articles to 1730. What do other people think about this? I've raised the issue here. --Kleinzach 03:58, 16 December 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Given the ongoing decline of Wikipedia (not to mention the infobox-related shenanigans suffered by the music projects at the beginning of this year), a lot of music projects are unsurprisingly inactive. CM's daughter project Contemporary music is one example of this. I've suggested that it should be made into a task force here (see here). Making it into a task force will preserve discussions etc in a more accessible location and perhaps protect them from deletion. --Kleinzach 03:17, 9 December 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Throughout 2010, the WikiProject Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons (UBLPs) has been working to reduce the number of unreferenced BLP articles, primarily by enabling WikiProjects to easily identify UBLP articles in their project's scope. There were over 52,000 unreferenced BLPs in January 2010 and this has been reduced to about 15,000 as of Dec 30. A bot is run daily to compile a list of all articles that are in both Category:All unreferenced BLPs and have been tagged by a WikiProject. Note that the bot does NOT place unreferenced tags or assign articles to projects - this has been done by others previously - it just compiles a list.

Your assistance in reviewing and referencing these articles is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please don't hestitate to ask either at WT:URBLP or at my talk page. Thanks, The-Pope (talk) 06:32, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Notable but amateur composer, friend of Victor Hugo, up for deletion here. There's a decent article in the New Grove we can use for one source; I've already added a reflist. Antandrus (talk) 15:35, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The abilities to understand inventions, identify the critical inventive feature, and present the point well to the examiner are all-important. But I also think that the ability to maintain a relationship, a supportive and productive relationship, with inventors is also very important. Truly outstanding patent professionals are those that inspire their clients to understand their inventions better.

In many cases, not always, the patent application process is one where the invention can grow over time. A patent professional who facilitates this growth by engaging in a true partnership with the inventor, should score high on the employability scale.

Ethan Poskanzer 8:35 I have been to talks without naming which ones they are where there's a technology. And I don't feel confident that the inventor has thought through what people are actually going to do when they get access to it. I totally agree with that. And it's usually not as altruistic, as the inventor has in

Jeff 14:50 yeah, no, I mean, it's, but it is like, I mean, at some point this season, I'm not going to talk about well, my own papers, my mother and my co authors come talk about paper, that paper so My dissertation, and it was published. It's impressed this year. Wow, that's insane. 2010

The apex of the global financial crisis occurred in 2008, together with the oil crisis, both of which encouraged the development of alternative energy sources [30]. In 2010, there was a significant increase in patents compared with previous years. In this period, scientific studies have demonstrated the potential of microalgae cultivation to produce oils for biodiesel, compared to the production from traditional land cultures [31]. Subsequently, worldwide interest has aroused in developing innovative methods to optimize the production and properties of microalgae oils. During the period evaluated, the largest number of patent filings occurred in 2014, with a total of 39 patent documents, which may be related to greater financial investment by investor countries [32,33].

The data in Figure 9 show the distribution of documents by applicants, considering the ten main institutions framed in the following sectors: companies, universities, research institutes, and cooperation agreements. The main research institute was the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology, and the main company was Corbion Biotech. Considering its short existence, emphasis can be placed on the Advanced Biomass R&D Center (ABC). It was founded in 2010, to promote the development of microalgae-based biorefinery technologies with significant financial support (approximately USD 100 million over nine years) from the Korean Ministry of Science, ICT, and Future Planning (MSIP), leading to the establishment of a comprehensive and diversified innovation ecosystem encompassing more than 25 research groups in the specialties of psychology, molecular biology, chemistry, and chemical engineering. 2ff7e9595c
